thanks guys.Hes not in trouble at all.It was just debts when he couldnt afford were he lived before.Our bills are paid on time every month(just not the debts he has) so theres no problem with that one.

I defaulted on an auto loan that was co-signed with my grandfather. I paid a settlement to a third party debt collector in Feb. It was paid in 3 different payments totaling $4500. Third party is saying they received $2500. The original creditor is saying they received $2000. (The payment third party says was never paid.) Now the original creditor has given me 3 days to obtain a release of the debt from the third party, or come up with $3700 to settle.(again) They said if I didn’t they’d get my husbands commander involved. Is this something JAG can help me with? What do I do now? My husband is deployed, and the last thing I want to do is put more stress on him.
I am the army spouse, and my husband was not on the loan. Not 100% sure if that makes a difference since I know that my husband is still ‘responsible’ for my actions as far as the military is concerned. I just find it odd that they are threatening that, so thought that maybe it was possible.
Also, I have my bank statements and a verification letter from the bank stating that the funds were transferred from my account to theirs.

My wife’s sister has had a troubled past. We decided to try and help her out of a financial mess by negotiating with two of her creditors and reaching a 6k settlement of which we fronted on a credit card.

Her sister’s next plan was to join the army, which she did, and secure a signing bonus with which to pay us back. She has since then qualified for the money and said she was going to send a check, but still hasn’t. We have been texting and leaving messages with her for over 2 months and now we are not getting any response back.

Now she is headed to Afghanistan and who knows when we may hear from her again. I want to be sensitive to that fact that she is serving her country, but the other part of me is angered that she would deliberately avoid her obligation — a matter of honor in my humble opinion.

My wife has recently stepped up trying to engage he sister and I was actually a bit shocked to hear she threatened to bring in a collection lawyer if necessary.

My questions are as follows:
1) How would we go about getting a judgement against her in court if she is leaving the country?
2) Can this be handled internally by the army? If so, where would I start? Who would I contact and so forth?

I know I will catch flack for this because she is going off to fight for her country, but I can’t expect any of you to understand the relationship between her and her sister.. and that we have bent over backwards trying to help this young woman get her life back on track. In my book, family comes first and this whole affair has caused her great distress.
